About me

Hi, I’m Jonathan, and I have been a driving instructor for several years after a late career change. Originally I had a franchise with one of the country’s leading driving schools then went independent in December 2020.

I love driving and love a good road trip whether it be the USA, Canada or Europe and enjoy passing that enthusiasm on to my learners. Prior to training and becoming a driving instructor, for the previous 35 years I was in property sales, locally, in London and also nationally, which involved driving 50,000 miles per year, so there aren’t many roads that I haven’t travelled, literally!  You really have to love driving to do a job like that, which fortunately, I do!

What You’ll Be Driving

This car is a great learner car due to its great visibility, smooth controls, and stop/start technology which is great in the event of stalling. Dual controls are installed for your safety.

The car is great for the economy with its small engine, but can give a lively performance if needed due to it being turbo-charged.

FAQ

  • What will I need for my first lesson?

Every new learner driver is required to have a valid provisional driving licence. An out of date or invalid licence with penalty points could invalidate my insurance. You can check whether your driving licence is valid by clicking here.

Once you have followed the simple steps, please click ‘share licence information’ and send me the code via text or WhatsApp, including the last 8 digits of your licence number.

  • What can I do prior to my first lesson to ensure I get the most out of it?

    • If you haven’t got safe footwear already, please invest in some with thin-soles and non-restrictive ankles (e.g. boots).
    • Have an eye test, or make sure your prescription (if you have one already) is up to date, as there is a quick eye-sight test prior to driving, (i.e.: reading a number plate from a distance), and until eyesight is corrected, you will not be able to drive.
    • Study the DVSA highway code and road signs booklets and read the DVSA Driving Essential Skills Book.
    • Practice steering! This makes such a difference on the first lesson. Your progress will be markedly better as it will come naturally allowing you to concentrate on other tasks more easily. When you start learning to steer, if you are struggling you can practice with a dinner plate or frisbee for a few minutes a day, turning both left to right until it becomes a fluid and natural movement.
  • How can I monitor my progress and payments?

I utilise ‘Total Drive’, which was nominated for the ‘Best Driving School Software’ app in 2020.

You are able to download this app and track all of your progress and payments, the balance of any remaining credit (block bookings).

    Get the app

I will provide you with an invite for simple access to this platform which is fully included in my service (no purchase necessary).

  • Which test centres do you use?

I use Clacton-on-Sea, Colchester and Ipswich.

  • Do you help with theory test training?

You will be granted access to my subscription of Theory Test Pro, which will provide you with a bank of theory test questions and hazard perception video clips – use of this software can greatly increase the chances of you passing your test. You should read the suggested books before attempting the tests.
